Da me amata, desiderata e capita... Sono dentro. Mi manca aria, Aspetto l'alba, Vedo tramonto. Solitudine a me dona, a lei che avevo chiesto Maternità. Matrigna." Father Gino Burresi with mother Teresa of Calcutta
Rome, 4 May 2018 - At the age of 85, after a long illness, father Gino Burresi, priest and religious of the Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died in Rome. He was the promoter of the construction of the sanctuary of San Vittorino Romano. Don Gino had been investigated for alleged abuses in the late eighties and for this reason in 1988 he was transferred to Austria. Since 1989 he has conducted private life, in the religious community of the Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Montignoso of Gambassi Terme.
In addition to the serious facts for which he was accused, Father Gino Burresi (born in Gambassi Terme on 6 July 1932) was also known for his large following of the faithful. In 1959 he asked and obtained from the Rome Vicariate the approval of an association of faithful called the Congregation of Our Lady of Fatima. Since 1961, in the village of San Vittorino Romano (where he permanently moved on May 17, 1964) he began the construction of an Opera dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima: this work is now known throughout the world as the Sanctuary of San Vittorino. The construction began in 1970 and ended May 13, 1979 with the consecration of the building, which took place on the part of the Bishop of Tivoli, Guglielmo Giaquinta.
