RIABILITAZIONE POST MORTEM DI PADRE GINO BURRESI

Carissimo confratello Oblato. All’inizio di quest’anno in cui celebriamo il 200° anniversario della nascita della nostra Congregazione, ho avuto l’idea di domandare al signor Richard Vidal, autore-compositore-interprete di canti religiosi nel Quebec, di comporre un canto in onore di Padre Lanteri. Per le parole del canto mi sono servito delle parole stesse del nostro fondatore, che ho trovato in un depliant fatto a Denver dai nostri confratelli Oblati, in cui ci sono molte citazioni del Padre Lanteri sulla Misericordia. Dal momento che tutta la Chiesa vive adesso il Giubileo della Misericordia, e visto che secondo me la Misericordia è l’elemento più caratteristico della spiritualità del nostro fondatore, mi è sembrato che fosse il momento favorevole per far conoscere Padre Lanteri al mondo intero, come testimone ed apostolo della Misericordia Divina.

Il canto è un modo straordinario per far conoscere qualcuno e per mettere in evidenza la sua spiritualità. Non penso che tutti gli Oblati si rendono conto dell’immenso favore che il Signore ci ha fatto, permettendo che uno dei compositori più famosi di canti nel Quebec, abbia accettato di comporre un canto sul Padre Lanteri.

Penso sinceramente che in qualsiasi luogo dove sarà cantato il canto, esso produrrà dei frutti di Misericordia. L’autore del canto, il signore Richard Vidal, subito dopo aver composto il canto e prima che egli mi mandasse il canto, ha cantato il canto davanti ad un gruppo di persone nella città di Quebec e alcune di queste persone gli hanno detto che sono state profondamente toccate dalle parole del canto. Questo, ai miei occhi, è un segno che Dio ci dà per mostrare chiaramente che il nostro fondatore ha qualche cosa di importante da dire alla gente di oggi. Se non usiamo questo canto durante il nostro giubileo Oblato, faremo secondo me un grandissimo errore. Prego lo Spirito Santo di mettere nel cuore di ciascuno di voi, il desiderio di imparare il canto, il desiderio di cantarlo in privato ed in pubblico e di farlo conoscere al più grande numero possibile di persone.

Sarebbe bene, quando mostriamo il canto a delle persone, dare una piccola spiegazione sulle parole « commence à nouveau » et « begin again », che traducono il « Nunc Coepi » così caro al nostro fondatore.

Dear brothers, earlier this year, a year in which we celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of our Congregation, I had the idea to ask Mr. Richard Vidal, author/composer/performer of religious songs in Quebec, to compose a song in honor of Father Lanteri. For the words of the song I used the same words of our founder which I found a booklet made in Denver by our Oblate confreres. In the book there are many quotations of Father Lanteri on Mercy. Since the whole Church is now living the Jubilee of Mercy, and given the fact that, according to me, Mercy is the most characteristic element of the spirituality of our founder, I felt it was the right moment to raise awareness throughout the world of Father Lanteri as a witness and an apostle of Divine Mercy.

Singing is a great way to introduce someone and to display his spirituality. I do not think that all Oblates are aware of the immense favor that the Lord has given us, granting that one of the most famous composers of songs in Quebec, has agreed to compose a song on Father Lanteri.

I sincerely believe that whereever the song will be sung, it will produce the fruits of Mercy. The author of the song, Mr. Richard Vidal, after having composed the song (but before he would send it to me) sang the song in front of a group of people in the city of Quebec. Some of these people told him that they have been deeply touched by the words of the song. This, in my eyes, is a sign that God shows us clearly that our founder has something important to say to people today. If we do not use this song during our Oblate Jubilee, we will make a huge mistake in my opinion.

I pray the Holy Spirit put into the hearts of each of you, the desire to learn the song, the desire to sing it in private and in public, and to make it known to the largest possible number of people.
It would be good, when we show the song to the people, to give a little explanation of the words "commence à nouveau" and "begin again", which translate the phrase "Nunc coepi," a phrase so dear to our founder.
